Sublimation 101

New to Sublimation? Learn more about this superior printing technology.

Sublimation is a digital print technology that allows the transfer of full-color images into a variety of substrates. Using a sublimation printer, special dye inks are infused into a substrate using the pressure and heat from a heat press. Sublimation produces vibrant full-color designs that are permanently on your product.

The sublimation process in three easy steps.

Step 1.

Everything starts with an image! This image can be a photo, digital rendering, illustration, or text. The file is created on a computer and then printed using a sublimation printer. Sublimation printers have special inks that will print your image onto sublimation transfer paper. Your sublimation printer will produce an image that is ready to be sublimated onto the product of your choosing.

Step 2.

Once your image is printed you are ready for sublimation. Secure your printed transfer to the product you are sublimating and place it into your heat press.  Using temperatures around 385°F (195°C) and pressure, the magic can start. While under these conditions, inks in your transfer become a gas and are infused into the substrate’s coating.

Step 3.

Enjoy your new product. The final result is a beautiful item with vibrant colors that will last a lifetime. You can use this new printing technology to create items for your home, family, friends, pets, or customers.
